Vivienda unifamiliar rural en La Fresneda – Rural house in La Freneda

English Español
Location: La Fresneda (Teruel)

The final goal of the project was the construction of a two-storied rural, traditional house with a multipurpose basement.

It was important for the house to blend with its surroundings. Traditional materials, like curved roof tiles or stone walls were used to achieve the desired effect. The sloped roofs, window size and proportion, help recreate a traditional isolated home of the Matarranya area.

The house has a basement used a storage area and utility room. It has an independent access from the lower part of the terrain, thanks to terraced configuration of the land.
The ground floor holds the living and cooking areas, as well as a small double room with bathroom. The first floor is occupied entirely by the main bedroom and an spacious bathroom with a detached bath and shower. In the interior of this floor, a more modern approach has been taken, maximizing the perception of space and amplitude, without trasnlating that to the exterior.

This house is completely off the grid. Electricity is produced by PV panels and a backup generator in an area near the limit of the property.

The traditional exterior does not compromise the energetic efficiency of the whole. The overhangs, the porch area and the width of the isolating materials help protect the house from direct solar gains in summer and heat losses in winter, reducing the evironmental impact of the house.
